An interesting point is that ‘Arcade’ is led by Michael Sayman, a young prodigy of just 21-years-old, who started his career in the social network giant Facebook at the age of 17 and a year later gave the jump to Alphabet as a product manager in Google Assistant.
A new social network from Google, but now based on games
‘Arcade’ was a secret until today, when the tech giant Google confirmed the existence of this startup in the presence of some rumours. They also mentioned that until now they are in a stage of development and the idea is to launch the first game during the summer, which may be related to trivia among friends. The idea behind ‘Arcade’ is to create several video games with social capabilities within the same network, which would be independent and would have no link with other social networks, own or third parties. Users would access through their phone numbers and create communities for each game and group of friends. This bet would be independent to the ‘Yeti’ project, where supposedly the tech giant Google would be working on a console with capabilities to access games in the cloud. Similarly, ‘Arcade’ would be independent of Android and its Play Store, as well as Daydream VR. It is believed that ‘Arcade’ was born after the success of mobile games such as HQ Trivia, which became a worldwide phenomenon. Therefore, Google would seek to replicate this success and take advantage to generate communities around mobile games, so the first game would be based on this format of trivia and we would know in the coming months, it is even believed that we could see its official announcement during the Google I/O 2019.
