8. Mercy
Mercy’s light has definitely dimmed significantly over the years, and it really shows in Overwatch 2. She might be able to boast huge healing numbers, but in the 5v5 format, the lack of a fifth member dealing any sort of damage is quite noticeable. That being said, Mercy is a great character to start with in Overwatch 2 because of how easy it is to heal your team up by simply following them around. She can teach you how to position yourself effectively on the field, and once you get more familiar with the game, you can start swapping to her Caduceus Pistol more frequently to help with damage output.
7. Winston
Winston is a decent fit for a lot of different play styles, but not that efficient overall in some situations. His primary, Tesla Cannon, fires a short range electric barrage, but doesn’t seal the deal when it comes to wiping out enemies. His ult, Primal Rage, can be difficult to control, which ultimately leads to you knocking enemies around without finishing them. That said, sometimes just knocking enemies out of position can make all the difference.
6. Reinhardt
Reinhardt used to be the go-to tank character, but in Overwatch 2, he sees a little less play. However, he’s still one of the easier characters to play if you’re looking to take on the tank role in the game to see what it’s like. His main purpose is to serve as a giant shield for his team, while occasionally throwing out Fire Strikes and swinging his hammer around. The hardest part about playing Reinhardt is knowing when to charge in, and when to use his ult, which can involve mind gaming your opponents.
5. Lucio
Lucio is the fastest medic, which is no surprise since he’s on rollerblades. He’s all about speeding your team up, and the best thing about him is that you don’t have to worry all that much about healing specific teammates or buffing them up. His aura makes it so that your teammates in Overwatch 2 have to actively come to you.
4. Torbjorn
The underrated engineer, Torbjorn is a great combination of damage and utility. His turrets are pretty much just “place and forget”, giving you a secondary source of damage while still helping out his team with his primary fire. His Molten Core ult also has the potential to create space for your team, and can also shut down Kiriko’s Kitsune Rush.
3. Bastion
If you’d like to be a bit more hands-on than Torbjorn, Bastion is still a pretty easy DPS hero to pick up in Overwatch 2. He can be rather mobile on his own, and he can also transform into a turret that just melts shields and low HP characters in his sight. His ult leaves a little to be desired for sure, but he continues to be a solid pick if you’re not too great at DPS roles just yet.
2. Soldier: 76
Soldier: 76’s primary purpose is to help with the onboarding process for new players just jumping into Overwatch 2, making him one of the most straightforward and easiest characters to play. His primary fire comes from his auto-rifle, which is simple to use, and he also has the ability to self-heal. To top things off, his ult also gives you temporary auto-aim capabilities, and it’s easy to contribute to your team while playing as him.
1. Moira
Moira is one of the easier healer characters to use in Overwatch 2, largely thanks to the fact that you don’t really need to aim with her primary and alt fire. Her healing and damage beams will affect a small area in front of her, and her orbs also help with healing and damage output as well. While she does get countered more easily in higher ranks, she continues to be a popular support choice in lower ranked Competitive games. And that does it for our picks for the easiest heroes to play in Overwatch 2, ranked by their usefulness. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game, including our ranking of all the DPS heroes, as well as a list of all hero counters.
